Introduction

New Hampshire's emancipation law, RSA 461-B, went into effect on January 1, 2020.  Before this, there was no formal way for a juvenile to become emancipated. According to the report on HB 574-FN there are three types of emancipation in use in other states: "full emancipation, limited emancipation where the courts to go through a checklist and dictate the privileges based on the child’s best interest, and revocable emancipation where the state gives a child certain enumerable rights and there remains some court oversight with the ability to revoke the emancipation." New Hampshire's law provides for a limited, revocable form of emancipation.
