As you can see from the lengthy list of resources below, researching adoption law can be complex. To help it all make sense, start with Family Law by Charles G. Douglas. Chapter 9 covers types of adoptions, the background and history of RSA 170-B (the adoption statute), who may adopt, who may be adopted, consent, surrender and notice requirements, the biological mother's and father's rights, the judicial process, and birth records. Family Law is available in many public libraries throughout New Hampshire.
